Explanation
The "Monthly Data Entry" section of our tool is where you enter key metrics for your business such as Sales, Cost of Goods, and Total Expenses. In order to create an accurate picture of your business, please include at least 3 years of financial data.
Instructions
At minimum you will need to enter Sales, Cost of Goods and Total Expenses up to the most recent month in which you have this data. By providing these data points for each month of the current year and for at least 2 years prior, our Budget Planning system can create a customized budget designed specifically for your business, and our Preset GAAP KPIs system can track your performance to budget. By providing full data -- including Cash, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, One PR Cycle - Gross (Avg), Monthly PR - Gross, Backlog, Total Assets, Net Worth, Transportation Costs and Shrink -- we can customize our Preset GAAP KPIs and Preset Benchmark KPIs to your businesses personality.
To get the minimum benefit from Profit Navigator, simply provide 3 years of "Total Sales", "Cost of Goods", and "Total Expenses" for each month for the current year. As you move from field to field in the data entry section, Profit Navigator will automatically save the data you entered. Fill out as much information as you can. If you need assistance, you can contact the Help Desk or you may have your Alliance Partner / Business Advisor complete this section with you. You may also take advantage of our Guided Tutorials by clicking the Tutorials link in the menu within Profit Navigator.
When you have completed entering your data for at least 3 years, you will be ready to create a budget.
There are a few different ways that you can add and update your business’s monthly data. You can add your data manually, import from an Excel Spreadsheet or by linking your Quickbooks account.
To Add Data Manually
On the "Monthly Data Entry" page in Profit Navigator, you can manually enter and update monthly data by clicking on a yellow box (yellow represents a data point that you can enter manually throughout Profit Navigator). You can also add additional years by clicking on “Add Year”, which is located to the immediate right of the years already added at the top left of the page.
To Import From an Excel Spreadsheet
The second way you can enter data is by exporting your data from Quickbooks Online or Quickbooks Desktop as an Excel spreadsheet and then using the Import Data Tool to import your data. Detailed instructions and a short tutorial video are available in the Import Data Section.
To Add Data by Linking Quickbooks
The final way you can enter data is by linking Quickbooks using our easy to use Quickbooks importer tools. To import using Quickbooks, follow the instructions in the Import Data section..
For Advanced Learners
The more years you are tracking, the smarter Profit Navigator will be.
