I forgot my password, how can I get a new password?
- If you have forgotten your password you may use the password reset feature or you may have your supervisor or business owner manually reset your password.
- To automatically request a password reset visit the password reset feature. You will be prompted to enter the email address you use to login to your account. The system will automatically email you a temporary password to the same email address you use to log in. Sometimes, our email may be recognized as Spam by your email provider. If the email is not in your SPAM folder or you can't find it, you must request a manual reset by your supervisor or through the help desk system. Once you receive the password reset email, use the temporary password provided to log in. After logging in, the system will prompt you to change your password. Remember this password as the passwords stored in the system are encrypted and there is no way to tell you what your password is. Be wary of anyone asking for your password as that could be an attempt to take over your account.
- To have your supervisor reset your password, ask them to log in to Profit Navigator and navigate to the Manage Business Credentials area. Once there, they can click on your name to pull up your information. The new password fields are located at the bottom of your personal information. Your supervisor will need to enter your new password and verify that they entered the correct new password. You may login using the chosen password and the email address you used to sign up.
- If your supervisor is unable to reset your password, you may submit a request to reset your password through our Help Desk Contact Form Please provide the email address you used to sign up with Profit Navigator. Our Help Desk personnel will contact you with further instructions.
I am able to log in and would like to change my password.
- You may change your password any time after logging into Profit Navigator by clicking the "Welcome [Name]" link on the far right of the secondary navigation bar. This will take you to your personal account information page. From this page you may make changes to your full name, address, telephone number, email address and password. Be aware that when changing your email address you will need to log out and back in for the changes to take effect.
Can anyone else change my password for me?
- Any supervisor who has permission to edit user accounts (Business Owner, Trusted Adviser etc) may change your password, at their discretion, at any time by navigating to the Manage Business Credentials area, clicking on your name and entering a new password for you at the bottom of the form.
I forgot my password, can you tell me what it is?
- No. We take your security, and the security of your company seriously. All passwords are encrypted using 256 bit SHA-2 based encryption. This encryption system is currently the most secure encryption system available and uses a one-time-encryption scheme. Your password and a special "padding key" is used to encrypt your password. Because of this, we are unable to decrypt your password and tell you what your password was. If you forget your password, you will have to use the password reset feature to request a new password.
What is 256 bit SHA-2 encryption? Why do you use it for passwords?
- SHA-2 is a set of cryptographic hash functions designed by the United States National Security Agency. They are built using the Merkle–Damgård structure, from a one-way compression function itself built using the Davies–Meyer structure from a specialized block cipher. We use SHA-2 encryption to ensure that your account is secure from attack by password sniffing techniques employed by hackers. Our website is also secured using SLL (Secure Sockets Layer) to further reduce the risk of someone finding your password (or any other personal information used in connecting to Profit Navigator) typically performed using "man-in-the-middle" packet sniffing hacks. Because of the complexity of SHA-2, the likelyhood of any password hashing to the same encrypted value is 2 to the 256th power or more than 1 * 10 to the 77th power or trillions of trillions of trillions of trillions to 1 against (1+E77:1). We value your security and safety when using Profit Navigator and want to make sure that we are doing everything we can to make sure that your personal information is safe from hackers.
